Professional Carpet Care Tips

Regular Vacuuming

It is important to vacuum your carpet thoroughly and frequently, particularly in high traffic areas. Not only does this improve the appearance of your carpet but it can also prolong the life expectancy.

  • Once your carpet has been laid, you should vacuum at least once a week.
  • Vacuuming first against the pile direction will help unsettle the dirt, dislodging it to be hoovered up.
  • When finishing, vacuum with the direction of the pile, to achieve a uniform finish.
  • Use a Good Quality Vacuum
Vacuums fitted with micro filter systems ensure that fine particles, such as allergens, are removed.
  • To prevent excess fuzzing of your carpet pile turn the brush off or change the head when vacuuming loop or cut pile carpets, or berber carpets.
  • For thicker carpets with higher piles, the height of beaters may be raised or the suction level may be reduced to make vacuuming easier.
  • Dust collection bags should be emptied frequently and filters should be replaced as per the manufacturer’s guidelines.
  • Steam Cleaning
  • Steam cleaning should also be part of your carpet care schedule. Depending on usage the carpet should be professional steam cleaned every 12-18 months.
  • Steam cleaning should only be undertaken by professional carpet cleaners. Attempting steam cleaning yourself is not advisable.
  • Spot Cleaning
  • Spot cleaning is one of the most important carpet care tips we can recommend. You should pay prompt attention to spillages or stains, if they are dealt with quickly they may not be so much of an issue.
  • Hot liquids should be dealt with particularly quickly. If they are allowed to cool or dry the stain will be more difficult to remove
  • Haphazard attempts at spot removal can cause permanent stains to set in, so make sure you always give spillages the attention they deserve.
